The Best Gites in France – Part 2

This is the second part of our blog exploring France and visiting some magnificent gites, our journey takes us to the Pyrenees Atlantiques, Aquitaine and Bordeaux to name but a few. The gites range from a one-bedroom farmhouse to a staggering property that can offer fourteen people luxury and modern accommodation. We start our journey in the Pyrenees and the Vieux Chenes.

Les Vieux Chênes – Pyrenees Atlantiques

The Vieux Chenes is situated near Lucq de Bearn and the gite has a perfect location. It is perched on a hilltop giving expansive views of the valley below and also the mountains beyond. The upstairs of the gite have fantastic views of the Pyrenees. Only a half hour drive will take you to Pau, with its elegant boulevards, restaurants and cafes. The accommodation has been rated as four stars and has no other gites overlooking it. For entertainment there is plenty to do in the surrounding area including, white water rafting, cycling, wine tours, fishing and walking.

La Croix – Aquitaine

Aquitaine is rural France at its very best, and this two-bedroom gite is located in a most romantic location with stunning views. The gite is situated on a little ridge in a small hamlet with spectacular views all around. This petite gite would be perfect for a honeymoon or a romantic getaway. It has one stunning master bedroom complete with a spiral staircase going down to the comfortable living room. Around the gite there are extensive manicured lawns where the guests can admire the flowers such as primroses, hollyhocks and buddleia. Behind the gite are three acres of fields that extend sloping down to the north.

Holiday Vines Villa and Spa – Bordeaux

This is luxury living with a capital L, the large impressive gite has its own private spa and is situated among the famous vineyards of Bordeaux. The spa includes a heated pool, an exercise pool, hot tub jacuzzi and even with luxury towels provided. The impressive building has seven bedrooms and three living rooms. There is also a fully fitted modern kitchen with a range and a massive dining table that can seat fourteen guests for banquet type meals. The bedrooms are a delight, with flat screen TV’s, a Nintendo Wii and an Xbox 360, all the bedrooms are en-suite. Outside there is an al fresco dining terrace and an expansive three acres of private land.

Gite – St Sauveur le Vicomt

We end our journey with a lovely petite gite that exudes the height of luxury, the building is a former hunting lodge with a most picturesque location near the Contentin National Park. The lakeside setting is France at its rural best, with twenty-five acres of stunning countryside rolling out before the gite. There is a great kid’s play area complete with a games room that is housed in a former wine cellar. The gite contains every modern amenity you could ask for including TV with freest channels, DVD player and excellent WIFI. From the cosy living room there are stunning views of the lake with French doors leading out to the terrace and garden area.

These gites break the mould of what people consider a traditional French holiday home, many are exclusive luxury getaways that allow guests the freedom to do exactly whatever they want, and that is the beauty of a gite.
